Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor will lead a high-level delegation from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to participate in the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, the government announced on Thursday.   "The government attaches great importance to the work of taking forward the Belt and Road Initiative. Hong Kong's participation at the forum will enhance our role and position as the prime platform and a key link for the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as fostering our integration into the overall development of the country," Lam said.   The forum, themed "Belt and Road Cooperation, Shaping a Brighter Shared Future", will feature 12 different sub-forums on key topics. These include infrastructure, trade, people-to-people connectivity and economic and trade cooperation.   Representatives from over 100 countries, including 40 leaders of foreign governments, are expected to attend the high-level forum, held in Beijing from April 25 to 27.   The first forum was held in May 2017.   Lam will deliver the opening keynote address at thematic forums on financial connectivity and regional cooperation.   The Hong Kong delegation comprises government officials, including the financial secretary, and representatives from various sectors in the city.   They will participate at thematic forums and the CEO conference on April 25, and the opening ceremony and a high-level meeting on April 26.   A session on regional cooperation, themed "Belt and Road: Hong Kong IN", will be moderated by the Chairman of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Laura Cha Shih May-lung. Six Hong Kong delegates will have in-depth discussions on how Belt and Road-related countries and regions may leverage Hong Kong's professional services and international connections in participating in the initiative and pursuing regional cooperation.   Lam said she looks forward to the SAR delegation "having proactive interactive exchanges on Hong Kong's work in the Belt and Road".   The Belt and Road Initiative, put forth by President Xi Jinping in 2013, aims at bringing together countries in Asia, Europe and Africa and their adjacent areas to deepen cooperation on all fronts.   By the end of March, a total of 124 countries and 29 international organizations have signed Belt and Road Initiative cooperation documents with China.     (Source: China Daily)
